NestlÃ©’s investment in dairy is critical to its goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050, as the vast majority of NestlÃ©’s emissions come from its supply chain. Dairy products make up about 16 percent of NestlÃ©’s overall carbon footprint in the United States, and about three percent come from fresh milk from 13 dairy farms in Modesto, California. By installing anaerobic digesters and advanced nutrient recovery technologies, farms can convert manure into usable by-products such as energy, solids for cow bedding and fresh water.
