âBarista @ the Foyleâ is located on the ground floor of the college’s Foyle building and serves specialty coffees, drinks and freshly prepared products daily.
The new cafe, open to the public, also serves as a teaching space for the barista skills training courses that are offered part-time at the NWRC.
Kathleen McCaul, Head of the Hotel and Restaurant Department at the NWRC, said: âWe are delighted to officially open our new barista, thankfully located near the town wharf. In addition to being a welcoming facility for staff and students, we will also be providing expert Barista coffee making training.
âWith our city and level 2 guilds, the NWRC is now an expert training center in crafting craft drinks, understanding coffee and honing the skills required by a modern barista.
âBarista @ The Foyle is now open and offers a wide range of hot and cold drinks, snacks, pastries and sandwiches. It is fully open to the public and we welcome guests to the college to try it out for themselves.
Gareth O’Connor, senior hospitality lecturer and owner of the Silver Bean, said the barista would be hugely popular with staff, students and the public.
He added, âSuccessful baristas need a range of skills that include health and safety, preparation, presentation, coffee knowledge and milk skills. Many of our former students are already working in a hotel environment, such as cafes, hotels or restaurants, or are looking for their first job as a barista. We look forward to training a new cohort of baristas this semester.
Open to the public, Barista @ The Foyle is open 8:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. (Monday to Thursday), 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (Fri), and 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. (Monday to Wednesday)
